And the United Nations organization, in its latest report on the pandemic, said that new infections with the Coronavirus fell by 5% last week, continuing the downward trend that began more than a month ago.
“Deaths also decreased by 8% and decreased globally during the past two weeks,” she added.
Only the Western Pacific saw a rise in virus cases, reporting a 46 percent increase.
Last week, Hong Kong recorded about 150 deaths per day, making it among the countries with the highest death rate in the world per million people.
Elsewhere, coronavirus infections have fallen dramatically and the Middle East and Africa have seen the biggest declines, with cases declining by 46% and 40%, respectively.
